Gardaí have charged a man over the attempted robbery of a post office in Dublin on Friday morning.

The 23-year-old, who is due to appear at Dublin District Court tomorrow, is one of two men arrested during a Garda sting at the post office on Fassaugh Avenue, Cabra.

The third member of the gang managed to escape.

The operation involved a large number of gardaí from the Emergency Response Unit and the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation's organised crime unit.

Members of the Garda Dog Unit were also involved as was the Garda helicopter and gardaí from Cabra and nearby Garda stations.

The second man, who is 25,  is still being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Blanchardstown Garda station.

Gardaí searching for the man who escaped have drawn up a shortlist of members of the criminal fraternity in Finglas.
