A man was charged at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday in connection with the discovery of a car bomb in Dun Laoghaire on Thursday.

Mr Larry Keane (41), of Cloney, Athy, Co Kildare, was charged with possessing 980 lb of improvised explosive mixture, a timer power unit, an electric detonator and two improvised booster tubes with intent to endanger life at the port on April 2nd.

He was also charged with having the explosives for an unlawful object on the same date. Mr Keane said nothing during the 15-minute hearing and was remanded in custody until April 22nd.
