Man accused of murder of Traveller at funeral

A man was charged in Sligo yesterday with the murder of a Traveller at a funeral in Ballymote last May.

A man was charged in Sligo yesterday with the murder of a Traveller at a funeral in Ballymote last May.

Mr Martin McDonagh (28), with an address in Hertfordshire in England, was charged with the murder of Mr Patrick Ward (38) at Ballymote graveyard on May 10th.

Mr Ward was shot dead as he stood outside the cemetery awaiting the arrival of a funeral from Dublin.

Mr McDonagh was charged on May 17th with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life at Ballymote cemetery on the day of the killing. He was refused bail and has been in custody since.
