A man appeared in court in Craigavon today charged with the murder of a Catholic taxi driver at the height of the violence surrounding the Drumcree Orange Parade stand-off in 1996.

Mr Clifford McKeown (42) was charged with the murder of Mr Michael McGoldrick (31) between July 6th and 9th in 1996.

The married father was found slumped over the wheel of his taxi with two bullets in the back of his head a day after he had gone missing while answering a call.

Mr McKeown, Aghalee, insisted he was "totally innocent of the murder" an RUC inspector told Craigavon Magistrates Court today.

He was remanded in custody until November 29th.
