A Dundalk man accused of murdering a Newry civil servant six years ago appeared at Armagh Crown Court yesterday. Mr Philip Andrew Quigley (23), of St Nicholas Avenue, was ordered to remain in custody until arraigned by a High Court judge in September.

Mr Quigley is charged with killing Rose Marie Anne Moran (32), mother of a four-year-old boy, in her home at Fairyhill Road, Clontigora, on August 22nd, 1991.

For the past four years the dead woman's husband, Joe, has been fighting extradition proceedings in the Republic. He is wanted for questioning by the RUC about his wife's murder. In February 1995 his lover, Anita McKeown (26), of Rath Cuan, Warrenpoint, Co Down, was jailed for eight years when she admitted plotting to kill Ms Moran.
