Man (27) attacked in Dublin last weekend dies

A man (27) who was assaulted on O'Connell Street last weekend died in hospital last night.

A man (27) who was assaulted on O'Connell Street last weekend died in hospital last night.

The man had suffered serious head injuries and had been in a critical condition after being assaulted at around 3.15am on Sunday morning.

Gardaí are renewing their appeal for three men, who may have witnessed the assault on O'Connell Street, to contact Store Street Garda station in confidence.

Detectives have described the attacker as being around six feet in height and of strong build, with a close-cropped hairstyle. He was wearing dark jeans with a horizontal-striped T-shirt.

They also want to speak to a woman who called at Pearse Street station around the time of the attack but ran out when a garda came to speak to her.

The man's body has been removed to the city morgue for a postmortem, which will be carried out later today.
