Gardaí have charged a man in connection with the fatal stabbing of one man and the wounding of another in Lucan, Co Dublin, last night.

The dead man, aged 24, was stabbed during a row at a house in Earlsfort Drive at about 10 p.m. He was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The second man (32), was stabbed in a separate incident in Earlsfort View a short time later. He was brought to Tallaght General Hospital, where his condition is said to be serious.

A 23-year-old Lithuanian man was arrested and taken for questioning to Ronanstown Garda station. He was charged under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

The scene of the incidents has been preserved for technical investigations. Deputy State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy was due to perform a post mortem examination later today.
