A man has died and a woman suffered injuries in a two-car collision near Lisburn, Co Antrim, in the early hours of Saturday.

A man has died and a woman suffered injuries in a two-car collision near Lisburn, Co Antrim, in the early hours of Saturday.

Brian Joseph Hazzard (21), Ballynahinch, Co Down, died in the incident which occurred on Carryduff Road at about 3.30am. He was the 10th fatality on Northern roads in 2008. The woman was treated for her injuries at the scene.

Following another accident yesterday, police have appealed for information after a car crashed into the home of an elderly couple in Lisburn, bursting into flames shortly afterwards.

A dark coloured Ford Focus hit the house on Laurelhill Road after 3am causing severe structural damage which may result in total demolition. The couple have lived there for more than 40 years.

No one was injured in the crash and it is not known if the car was occupied at the time of the collision.

The PSNI said last night a 19-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident and is now helping it with its inquiries.
