Luas services were temporarily disrupted on Dublin's Red Line this afternoon following a collision between a tram and an articulated lorry.

The Tallaght-Connolly Station service is understood to have collided with a heavy goods vehicle at around 4pm at Suir Road Bridge, Kilmainham.

Emergency services were called to the scene but there were no reports of any injuries to passengers. The front of the Luas tram was damaged in the impact with the Jans Trans Ltd vehicle at the junction of Suir Road and Davitt Road.

A number of Red Line trams packed with rush-hour commuters were backed up along the route as Luas engineers cleared the obstruction.
