Almost 22 million passenger journeys were made on the trams in 2005, leading to an operating surplus of €228,000, and are likely to rise to 25 million this year.

• Friday is the busiest day on Luas, followed by Thursday. One of the busiest sections is the Connolly/Heuston section of the Red Line, especially on Fridays at peak hours.

• The Green Line is busier than the Red Line daily except Sunday.

• Safety has improved with accidents between Luas and other vehicles reducing from one in 65,000km in 2004 to one in 100,000km in 2005.
