The British and Irish Lions answered their first real question of the tour by comprehensively defeating the Super 12 semi-finalists, Queensland Reds, by 42 points to eight at the Ballymore stadium in Brisbane today.

Elton Flately put the home side ahead with a 10th minute penalty before the Lions regrouped to stamp their authority on the third encounter of the Tour.

Four first half tries by Dan Luger, Rob Henderson, Daffyd James and Richard Hill added to two Johnny Wilkinson penalties ensured the Lions went in at half-time with an almost unassailable 32-3 lead.

Ireland centre Brian O’Driscoll appeared to continue the Lions momentum with a second half try under the posts in the 42nd minute but it was the last try of the game from the visitors.

The Lions lost their shape in the second half which eventually gave Sam Cordinley an opportune try for the Reds just after the hour.
