The Independent Fianna Fáil TD for Limerick West has been remanded on bail after appearing in court charged with two tax offences.

Michael Collins (65), from White Oak, Red House Hill, Patrickswell, appeared before today's sitting of Rathkeale District Court in Newcastlewest.

Mr Collins is charged under Section 10 of the Criminal Justice Act with defrauding the Collector General contrary to common law and with obtaining a tax clearance certificate by false pretences.

It is alleged Mr Collins applied for a tax clearance certificate at a time when he had undeclared tax liabilities. Both offences are alleged to have taken place on unknown dates between May 2nd and 31st, 2002.
