Three people were rescued by a lifeboat crew off the Waterford coast this morning after their boat became entangled in fishing nets.

The Dunmore East lifeboat was launched to assist the angling vessel Beauty 2just before 11am.

A spokesman for the lifeboat station said the boat had become entangled in fishing nets some eight miles due south of Dunmore East and was unable to proceed under her own power.

There were no other vessels in the area to come to the assistance of the stricken boat, the spokesman said.

"The lifeboat arrived at the casualty at 11.30am and in fair conditions with a north easterly wind of force 2 towed Beauty 2to Dunmore East harbour arriving there at 12.52pm."
