The firm of solicitors which represented two Scots Guardsmen convicted of murdering a Belfast teenager, Peter McBride, was awarded £65,000 libel damages from the Daily Telegraph in the Northern Ireland High Court yesterday. The six partners in McCartan Turkington Breen sued the paper over a

letter published in May 1997 which implied the firm did not bring forward all the available evidence when the soldiers were convicted of murder. The letter was written by Lieut Gen Sir David ScottBarrett in support of a campaign to free the two guardsmen.
