A much loved teddy bear was among the personal memorabilia of the writer Mary Lavin presented by her family to the Dublin Writers' Museum yesterday to mark its 5th anniversary.

Her daughter, Ms Elizabeth Walsh Peavoy, also handed over two sashes which Ms Lavin wore as a member of the Leinster hockey team, a letter by Sean O Faolain introducing her to the public and a marble which she had in her hand on her voyage to America in 1922.

Mary Lavin, who died earlier this year, was one of the foremost short story writers of the century.
