The most glamorous-sounding event of the upcoming week must surely be the polo match to be played between Ireland and Ghana at Humewood Castle on Thursday. Renata Coleman is hosting Frank Abu, the president of the Accra polo club, and his team when they take on the Polo Wicklow team for the first team.

Renata herself will be playing, as will Mickey Herpst, who is captain of the team and president of Polo Wicklow, a club which - unusually - continues playing polo throughout the winter months in the arena at Kilpoole Hill. The other two members of the team are Dublin wine merchant, Chris Murphy and Joe O'Connell, owner of the new international polo ground at Ballyhenry in Wicklow. The first chukka on Thursday is at 6 p.m. but more than one glam thing will surely be dying for the cocktails that will be served in the ballroom after the match and a chance to mingle with all those dashing players in white.
