Last blast for rooster

The Co Mayo rooster whose owner went to Mountjoy Prison rather than get rid of him, has crowed his last.

The Co Mayo rooster whose owner went to Mountjoy Prison rather than get rid of him, has crowed his last.

The rooster's owner, Mrs Myra Gallagher, from Achill Sound, is said to be devastated by the loss of her pet, who was killed by dogs.

Mrs Gallagher (62) spent almost two weeks in jail last November for contempt of court after she refused to comply with a court order to get rid of the rooster and build a six foot wall between her garden and a neighbour's.

She later purged her contempt and eventually won the right to keep the cockerel.
