The Scottish stars of this delightful Greekish tragi-comedy promise its young audience a "spooky wee show", but the scares in this play for five-and-ups are strictly of the giggle-inducing variety.

This two-man show comes to us from a company called Wee Stories Theatre for Children. Dave and Andy follow the golden thread of the story of Theseus and the Minotaur around a clever wee set, with the help of audience participation - a few lucky kids are on stage for 15 minutes at a time. There's funny and inventive use of music, and all the children of the "chorus" even pick up some knowledge of Greek theatre and mythology.

Labyrinth is playful, revelling in easy, unpretentious and fluid shifts in and out of character and narrative, and calling children's attention to the way the story is told while telling it effectively. The message clearly is: "Do try this at home" (though wise parents will hide some of their toilet paper from eager little re-enactors).

For this year's festival, the good folks at the Ark have been more-than-usually tough in telling kids, before the show, to sit still and be quiet. Thankfully, Labyrinth immediately and gloriously tramples on those injunctions - to the pleasure of all concerned.
