A major policy gap opened between Fine Gael and Labour last night when the smaller party insisted it would not accept the privatisation of Aer Lingus if it is elected to government.

Dublin TD Roisin Shortall said on RTÉ's Questions and Answerslast night that her party would block the sale of the semi-state airline as part of its price for entering power "with anybody".

Fine Gael has backed the sale of the company and has repeatedly criticised the Government for being too slow in bringing it to the market, given its need for investment funds.
