The Labour Party today announced the distribution of its Seanad portfolios.

The Labour Party today announced the distribution of its Seanad portfolios.

Senator Brendan Ryan has been appointed group leader and will have responsibility for foreign affairs; Northern Ireland; arts, sports and tourism; health and community; and rural and gaeltacht affairs.

Former finance spokesman Mr Derek McDowell was given finance, European affairs, transport and enterprise, and trade and employment.

Party chief whip is Senator Kathleen O'Meara who will also have responsibility for communications, and the marine and natural resources.

Ms Joanna Tuffy has been allocated the education and science, justice equality and law reform, and defence portfolios.

The environment and local government, social and family affairs, and agriculture and food portfolios have been given to Senator Michael McCarthy.
