Tottenham boss Glen Hoddle has played down suggestions that his injured star striker Robbie Keane could be facing a lengthy lay off.

The Republic of Ireland player will miss Monday's Premiership game against Manchester City, as well as the trip to West Ham the following Saturday.

But Hoddle insisted talk of Keane's knee injury keeping him out of action for six weeks was "wide of the mark".

"You can't rush these things and although it is obviously a disappointment Robbie doesn't need an operation," Hoddle told the club's website.

Keane, who has scored nine goals in 23 games for Spurs, injured his knee in Tottenham's 4-1 win over Sunderland a fortnight ago.
