Judiciary and politicians join family and friends at judge's removal

THE SACRED Heart Church, Donnybrook, was packed to capacity for the removal of the remains of Mr Justice Kevin Haugh on Saturday, which were received at the church by Fr Patrick Carroll.

The mourners were led by the late judge’s wife Annette, children Sarah, Bob and Geraldine, grandchildren Lilly, Lucy and Matthew, sisters Evelyn, Clodagh and Brenda and brother Maurice.

The Government was represented by Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern and Minister for Social and Family Affairs Mary Hanafin. Former ministers for justice Michael McDowell and Ray Burke were also present.

Among the many members of the judiciary present were the Chief Justice, Mr Justice John L Murray; former chief justice, Mr Justice Ronan Keane; the President of the Law Reform Commission, Mrs Justice Catherine McGuinness; and other judges of the Supreme Court, Mr Justice Niall Fennelly, Mr Justice Hugh Geoghegan, Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman and Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns.

Mr Justice Haugh’s High Court colleagues present included Mr Justice Peter Kelly, Mr Justice Peter Charleton, Mr Justice Paul Carney, Mr Justice John McMenamin, Mrs Justice Mary Finlay Geoghegan, Mr Justice Michael Moriarty, Mr Justice Frank Clarke, Mr Justice Kevin Feeney and Mr Justice Roderick Murphy.

The Circuit Court bench was represented by its president, Mr Justice Matthew Deery. Other Circuit Court judges present included Catherine Delahunt, Olive Buttimer and Harvey Kenny.

Other friends present included Hugh Hartnett SC, Patrick Gageby SC, John Rogers SC, Patrick McCarthy SC, Frank Callanan SC, Claire Callanan, Kieran O’Connor, Dr Declan Gilsenan, Eddie Veale and Bill Power.

Fr Carroll said those present to support the family would remember Mr Justice Haugh’s great enthusiasm for life, the strong bonds of friendship he forged and his enjoyment of his family.

He will be buried today in Dean’s Grange cemetery after Mass at 11 am.
