Two men have pleaded guilty to assaulting a Lithuanian man on the banks of the Royal Canal in September 2004

Two men have pleaded guilty to assaulting a Lithuanian man on the banks of the Royal Canal in September 2004. At a  Dublin Circuit Criminal Court hearing this morning the men were remanded in custody ahead of sentencing in April by Judge Desmond Hogan

Michael Rae (20) of in Barry Road, Finglas, and Leigh O'Connell (19) of Blackmore Lane pleaded guilty to violent disorder and to assault causing harm to Mr Sigitas Ziezdrys at Royal Canal Bank, Phibsboro, on September 25th, 2004.

Their trial earlier this week on four charges arising out of the assault was discharged by Judge Donagh McDonagh, who told the jury on the second day of the hearing that matters had arisen in its absence that caused him to withdraw the case from it.

Judge Hogan remanded both men in custody and requested the preparation of a victim impact report.
