Chicago - Civil rights leader, the Rev Jesse Jackson, was in fair condition at a Chicago hospital yesterday, recuperating from a minor case of pneumonia, his son said.

Jonathan Jackson said his father's pneumonia grew out of a chronic case of bronchitis that developed on a recent trip to Africa as President Bill Clinton's special envoy to the continent. Mr Jackson (56) was improving and might be released today, his son said.
