Tokyo - A 60-year-old Japanese woman gave birth last month to a baby conceived through in vitro fertilisation, becoming what is believed to be the oldest new mother in Japan and one of the oldest in the world, reports said yesterday.

The woman, who became pregnant in the US through in vitro fertilisation using donated ova, gave birth to her first child late in July at a Tokyo hospital, Kyodo news agency said.
