A Mauritian woman who lied to gardaí that €13,000 had been stolen from her bank account has been given a three-year suspended sentence.

Shalanda Sack (29) claimed there had been “unauthorised transactions” over a three-week period from her Bank of Ireland account, and reported the theft to her bank manager and gardaí.

She later admitted receiving a lump sum from a man to lodge in her account, which he gradually withdrew. She reported the false thefts to Bank of Ireland in the hope they would refund her.

Sack, of North Circular Road, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to making a false statement at Pearse Street Garda station on June 3rd, 2011. Judge Martin Nolan sentenced her to three years, which he suspended in full on strict conditions.
