A top aide to Israel’s Internal Security Minister was wounded by gunfire from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip today during a border tour with a delegation from Canada, medical staff said.
The aide to Avi Dichter suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Mr Dichter was nearby but was not injured in the shooting.
Israel Radio reported the minister was accompanying a delegation of Canadian Jews on a visit to the Israeli border community of Nir Am, which is the target of frequent cross-border shooting and rocket attacks by Palestinian militants.
The Popular Resistance Committees and a smaller militant group called the Army of the Nation claimed joint responsibility for the attack.
