The Israeli cabinet has approved a bill setting out details of compensation for Jewish settlers leaving Israeli-occupied Gaza under the prime minister's plan for a partial withdrawal.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's plan to remove all 21 Gaza Strip enclaves and four of 120 in the West Bank would for the first time uproot Jewish settlements from land claimed by Palestinians for a state and captured by Israel in the 1967 war.
