The Ferrari Formula One team last night swiftly lodged an appeal against the decision to strip Eddie Irvine of victory at the inaugural Malaysian Grand Prix.
The Irishman had claimed victory in the penultimate event of the Formula One season and appeared ideally placed to take the drivers' championship title at Japan's Suzuka circuit in two weeks. However, that dream was dashed within two hours as officials ruled his and second-placed team-mate Michael Schumacher's cars had breached race regulations.
