Irish national Vincent Martin Crowe (32) has been charged in Perth, Western Australia, with murdering Wexford man Kenny Meyler.

Mr Meyler (21) suffered a stab wound to the neck in the Perth suburb of Scarborough on the afternoon of February 10th. Police attended the scene after receiving a call about a fight involving several men.

Mr Meyler died a week later at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.His mother and two other relatives arrived in Perth five days before he died.

Before Mr Meyler’s death, Mr Crowe was initially charged with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Following the results of a post-mortem this was upgraded to a charge of murder yesterday at Perth magistrate’s court.

Mr Crowe has been remanded in custody to appear before Stirling Gardens magistrate’s court on March 27th. Mr Meyler’s body has been repatriated to Wexford.

The Claddagh Association, an Irish welfare group in Perth, has provided support for the Meyler family over the past two weeks, including holding a fundraising event at the Irish Club in Subiaco.

Mr Meyler and his family were also prayed for at a remembrance mass at St Joseph’s Church in Perth over the weekend. The Department of Foreign Affairs has provided consular assistance to the Meyler family.
