The Department of Foreign Affairs is investigating reports that an Irish woman may have been killed in the suicide bombings at three Westerners' compounds in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh.

A spokeswoman for the Department said it was looking into a report, carried by the official Saudi news agency, that one Irish person was amongst 34 people killed in Monday night's attacks.

She said they had been in contact with the Irish embassy in Riyadh, but there was no confirmation as yet that any Irish person had been killed or injured in the attacks.

The updated figures carried today by the official SPA news agency added five more to a previous Saudi toll - one Irish national, one Briton, an Australian of Lebanese origin, a third Filipino and one unidentified corpse.
