An Irish tourist has died after falling from a balcony in the Canary Islands.

An Irish tourist has died after falling from a balcony in the Canary Islands.

The has been named as Robert Delves, from Rush, north Co Dublin.

The 42-year-old was on holiday with his wife and three children in the resort of El Médano in Granadilla in the south of Tenerife.

He reportedly fell 10m from the balcony of his apartment early this morning and sustained severe head injuries.

It is believed Mr Delves, who worked for his family printing business, was on holiday with his parents and his brother's family.

A source at the Civil Guard in Tenerife said: "An ambulance was called to the hotel at 1.30am this morning and paramedics tried to reanimate the 42-year-old
holidaymaker but his vital signs were negative

"Although we are still awaiting the outcome of the investigation, it is thought the accident was caused by a handrail on the balcony which gave way."
