Irish entries Diarmuid Gavin and Elma Fenton have both won awards at the 2005 Chelsea Flower Show in London.

Mr Gavin won the Silver-Gilt Flora in the category Best Show Garden and Ms Fenton, from Ellen Landscape Designs, won a Silver Flora in the same category.

Nineteen gardens competed in the Best Show Garden Category and over 50 are on display.

Ms Fenton, who was making her debut at the show, said "the gardens here are up to a huge standard so it was a great accolade to get selected for the show, and winning a medal was a huge bonus". She worked with Kevin Noud Landscaping and was supported by Horticulture Ireland and Bord Bia.

Diarmuid Gavin's garden will return to Dublin as the centrepiece for a new development at Hanover Quay. He said he wanted to make people think about living spaces, "taking those that own businesses or live in flat complexes and make them think about the spaces and what they can do with it". A radio campaign was launched yesterday for funds to enable the garden created by Ellen Landscape designs be brought back to Ireland as a memorial for the five schoolgirl victims of Monday's Co Meath bus crash.
