The Irish Vice-Consul in Edinburgh visited two men from Northern Ireland currently on hunger strike in Barlinnie Prison, Glasgow, yesterday, writes Rachel Donnelly.

Mr Michael Lonergan spent half an hour with Mr Raymond Barrow (39), and his brother, Mr James Barrow (41), and confirmed that he would be present at Stranraer Sheriff's court when the two are sentenced for a breach of the peace and contravention of the Prevention of Terrorism Act on Monday.

Mr Raymond and Mr James Barrow were arrested on April 19th when they travelled to Scotland on the Larne-Stranraer ferry.

The depute procurator fiscal in Stranraer, Mr John Logue, said he understood that the men had been convicted under the PTA for "failing to comply with the directions of an examining officer" and also for "shouting and swearing" at police officers.
