The Department of Foreign Affairs said it expects a response tomorrow from the Italian authorities in relation to its inquiries into the case of Irish activist Mr Joe Moffatt.

Thirty-year-old Mr Moffatt was arrested during the recent anti-globalisation riots in Genoa. He was found to be carrying a Swiss army knife and has been subsequently charged with carrying a lethal weapon.

There have been a number of calls for his release not least from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Cowen.
