Young man (18) killed as car hits wall in Tipperary

16-year-old passenger seriously injured in early-morning crash in Roscrea

An 18-year-old man has died in a car crash in Tipperary.

The car he was driving hit a wall on the Birr Road in Roscrea at about 1.55am, a Garda spokesman said.

A doctor pronounced the 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. His 16-year-old male passenger, who was seriously injured, was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital.

Gardaí said a postmortem examination on the remains of the dead man will be held at a later stage.

The scene of the crash has been preserved for forensic examination and diversions were in place this morning.
