Tesco recalls beef ravioli over fears the food contains rubber

Supermarket chain Tesco Ireland has recalled its beef ravioli over fears that it may contain pieces of rubber.

The food safety alert was issued on Tuesday on the Food Safety Authority of Ireland’s website in relation to the 400g pack of Tesco Beef Ravioli with an expiry date of December 2018.

“Tesco Ireland is recalling the above batches of its Beef Ravioli, as they may potentially contain pieces of rubber,” the FSAI said in a statement.

The move comes as Tesco stores in the UK and Sainsburys were also forced to issue urgent recall notices over tins of pasta which may contain pieces of rubber.

Both supermarkets said they were recalling the products, made by Noliko NV in Belgium, as a "precautionary measure".

The retailers both pleaded with customers not to eat the food and instead bring them back to the store they bought them from and get a refund.

A statement on the UK’s Food Standards Agency’s website says: “As a precautionary measure Sainsbury’s and Tesco are recalling the affected products and point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores where the products are sold.”

The agency added: “If you have bought any of the above products, do not eat it. Instead, contact the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”

No other products have been affected by this recall in Ireland although this is the second Tesco product to be recalled in the space of a month.

In June, Tesco’s guacamole was recalled over fears that salmonella might have been present.
