Man killed while crossing road in Co Meath was on his way to work

Gardaí have confirmed that the pedestrian who died after being knocked down on the main Dublin to Derry road on Tuesday morning was 54 years old and living locally.

It is believed he is originally from Moldova and his name was not being released until his family was notified.

The man was crossing the road to go to work when he was knocked down.

The accident happened at about 6.50am at Ballymagarvey Farm, Balrath, on the N2 in Co Meath.

Gardaí in Navan are investigating and confirmed that his body was taken from the scene to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan.

The N2 was closed from Balrath Cross to Porter’s Cross for nearly 10 hours while the scene was examined by garda forensic collision investigators.

In January, two women who were also crossing the N2 but further north at Hunterstown, Ardee, Co Louth, were knocked down and died.

Meath county councillor Wayne Harding said, “death and grief are building up on the N2 and the government has got to look at this road seriously.”
