An intermediary has been appointed by the Government to facilitate discussions in the ongoing dispute between the Irish Farmers’ Association and Greencore over beet prices.

The Tánaiste Ms Harney and the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Walsh, announced tonight that Mr Paddy Teahon, a former secretary in the Department of the Taoiseach, had accepted the post.

His appointment has been welcomed by both the IFA and Greencore, who have agreed to begin talks.
