Clerical and administrative staff at the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, who are members of the Impact union, will stage a one-day strike next Monday in protest at the institute's failure to provide permanent posts for long-term temporary staff.

A two-day strike will follow on September 14th-15th.

A union spokeswoman, Ms Marie Corcoran, said yesterday the dispute centred on the unacceptably high level of longterm temporary staff at the institute's campuses in Galway and Castlebar.

Some of the long-term temporary clerical staff had worked there for four-five years.
