London: The horrific killing of an earl's nephew in a Zimbabwe safari park has been blamed on an injured lion turned into a man-eater by starvation.

Mr David Pleydell-Bouverie (19), who was working as an assistant for a safari firm, was dragged from his tent as a pride of lions attacked a camp in the remote Matusadona National Park in western Zimbabwe early on Sunday.

Police investigating the attack said an ageing lioness, subsequently shot dead, was believed to have led the attack in a desperate attempt to find food after suffering a broken leg.
