Hillwalker airlifted off Lugnaquilla

A 40-year-old hillwalker from Northern Ireland was airlifted off Lugnaquilla mountain on Saturday after suffering leg injuries during a climb.

The man was one of a large party of hillwalkers who were staying in Glenmalure, Co Wicklow, for the weekend.

The group was on way up Lugnaquilla – Leinster's highest peak – when the man twisted his ankle and suffered lower leg injuries.

His colleagues called in the Glen of Imaal and Dublin- Wicklow mountain rescue teams and a helicopter was scrambled from Baldonnel.

The man was brought to Tallaght hospital.
