BA strike fails to disrupt Irish flights
British Airways’ services in and out of Ireland’s airports are operating as scheduled despite strike action grounding a portion of the carrier’s fleet, writes Steven Carroll.
According to the airline’s website last night, no services to or from Belfast, Cork or Shannon have been cancelled. A spokeswoman for Dublin Airport Authority said services in and out of Dublin had not been affected by the strike action.
BA said that during the five-day strike, all flights at London Gatwick and London City airports would operate as normal, and it expected to operate more than 60 per cent of long-haul flights and half of its short-haul schedule from London Heathrow.
Three killed in school bus crash
CUMBRIA – Three people died and four were fighting for their lives last night after a school bus was involved in a pile-up with a car and a minibus.
Among the dead was the driver of a grey Honda Civic, which is understood to have hit the coach carrying about 30 children. Thirty-five others were injured in the collision, which happened at 3.47pm on the A66 near Keswick in Cumbria, police said.
The bus was on a daily run carrying children from Keswick High School to their homes in Cockermouth, about 21km (13 miles) away. Barry Pickthall, who runs coach firm JB Pickthall, said the 49-seater vehicle involved was from his company. – (PA)
