Supermac's plans Moneygall motorway plaza

Fast-food chain Supermac’s has announced plans for a €7 million motorway services plaza in Moneygall, the Co Offaly town and ancestral home of US president Barack Obama.

The company said the plaza would bring more than 50 jobs to the area. It will be located on a 12-acre site on the M7 between Dublin and Limerick, and feature fuel pumps, Supermac’s and Papa John’s Pizza outlets, a food court and convenience shop. It is expected to be open for business early next year.

Farmer killed by cow-kick named

A farmer and father of three who died after being kicked by a cow on his north Cork farm has been named locally as Maurice Foley.

Mr Foley, in his 50s and who lived in Araglin, was kicked on Sunday evening. He was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he died. He is survived by his wife Margaret and three grown children.
