Man in court over Ennis attack

A 31-year-old Ennis man appeared in court yesterday charged with the assault of Co Clare’s Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals officer two days before Christmas Day.

At Ennis District Court, Patrick Francis Doherty, of Bay One, Ballaghboy, Quin Road, Ennis, appeared in connection with the assault causing harm to Frank Coote on December 23rd last.

Judge revokes bail in assault case

A judge has revoked bail for an 18-year-old Shannon man after finding that the man had breached his bail conditions after attempting to make contact with the alleged victim in the case.

Larry Connors, of Town Court, Shannon, was brought before Ennis District Court yesterday.

He is facing four charges of assaulting a woman last month.

Charge upgraded to murder

The case of a man charged with assaulting an English motorist who died after an alleged road rage attack in Dublin last September has been upgraded to murder.

Raymond Bates (49), from Durham, sustained head injuries following an incident in Sandymount, Dublin 4, on September 26th last.

Mr Bates felt unwell the next day and went to hospital. He later lapsed into a coma and died on September 30th last.

On October 12th last, Karl Donohoe (29), of Ringsend, Dublin 4, was charged under section 4 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Persons Act with causing serious harm to Mr Bates.

At Dublin District Court yesterday, Mr Donohoe, a father of one, was charged with the murder of Mr Bates.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on January 21st.
