Rapist jailed for eight years over attack

A Polish man who raped a Mayo woman has been jailed for eight years by Mr Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court yesterday.

Woychiech Kasprzak (25), Dock Road, Limerick, pleaded guilty to orally raping the woman and assaulting her, causing her harm, in Castlebar, Co Mayo, on July 13th, 2007.

Child porn man sent to prison

A 31-year-old man was yesterday jailed for nine months after he was caught with child pornography when a work colleague discovered images of children being sexually abused on a CD that he gave her to store photographs from a party.

Gabor Istrauffy, a native of Hungary, with an address at Kinsale, Co Cork, pleaded guilty at Cork Circuit Criminal Court to possessing child pornography at Pearse St, Kinsale, between September 28th and October 1st, 2007, and at Monastery Gardens, on October 5th, 2007.

Judge Patrick Moran sentenced him to 18 months in jail with the final nine months suspended.

Judge suspends drugs sentence

A 26-year-old caught by gardaí with the largest ever amount of heroin in Cork walked free from court yesterday after a judge imposed a six year sentence but suspended it on condition that he be of good behaviour.

Brian Wall, Beech Tree Avenue, Shanakiel, Cork pleaded guilty to four charges relating to the seizure of €145,600 worth of heroin in Shanakiel on September 27th 2007.

Judge Carroll Moran said a probation report on Wall concluded he was at the lowest level of risk in terms of reoffending and he accepted that Wall was genuinely remorseful.

Drug dealer bought stun gun

An apprentice plumber jailed for 10 years for possessing drugs valued over €58,000 told gardaí he bought a stun gun for "the sake of it".

Thomas Maher (27) Cadogan Road, Fairview, Dublin, told gardaí he had never used the stun gun, found in his bedroom with two food blenders, a digital weighing scales and over €58,000 worth of drugs.

Man with heroin gets seven years

A man who Judge Desmond Hogan described as "a cog in the machine of drug dealing" has been given a seven year sentence for possessing heroin valued at over €23,500.

Edward Keogh (25) Tír Chonaill Road, Inchicore, Dublin, claimed he was bagging 89.425 grammes of drugs for someone he was afraid of as he owed a drugs "debt".

Disqualified driver jailed

A mother of three school-going children, who continued to drive while disqualified, was jailed for six months at Wicklow District Court yesterday.

Stephanie O'Connor, Tinahely, Co Wicklow received consecutive sentences of three months imprisonment from Judge Murrough Connellan for having a false driving licence and driving with no insurance at Ballyfree, Glenealy, on May 7th of this year.

The court heard that she had 29 previous convictions and five or six disqualifications from driving.
