Man remanded over Raheny fatal stabbing

A man charged with a murder in Raheny has been remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison in Dublin.

Henry McLaren (33), Edenmore Drive, Raheny, was before Swords District Court yesterday charged with the fatal stabbing of Thomas Dempsey (61) near Mr Dempsey's home at Edenmore Drive.

Judge Patrick Brady remanded Mr McLaren in custody to appear in court again next Monday.

Addict jailed for stolen crash

A drug addict who crashed a stolen four-wheel-drive into a van during a high speed chase on the Malahide Road, Dublin, injuring a woman, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Paul Hogan, Donomore Crescent, Tallaght, yesterday pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen four-wheel-drive, damaging a van and causing risk of death or serious harm to its occupants on June 6th, 2005, on the Malahide Road.

Hogan also pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a Subaru Impreza car on December 15th, 2005, at Ballinteer, Dublin.

Rapist gets eight year sentence

A west Dublin alcoholic who raped his then partner's daughter has been given an eight years sentence by Mr Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court.

The 41-year-old man who cannot be named, to protect the identity of the then five-to-nine-year-old victim, pleaded guilty to raping and sexually abusing her from 1997 to 2001 in Co Kildare.

Mr Justice Carney also directed that the man be registered as a sex offender.

Kerry rapist to be sentenced

A jailed Kerry rapist will be sentenced on May 26th by Mr Justice Kevin O'Higgins at the Central Criminal Court for attempted rape of a 17-year-old girl he met at a Killarney disco on Christmas Eve 2004.

James Cronin (23), Freemount, Rathmore, Co Kerry, was found guilty by a jury on December 20th of attempted rape of the teenager and with assault with intent to rape her in a laneway. He was found not guilty of threatening to kill her.

Cronin is already serving an eight-year sentence for kidnapping and raping another woman he met outside a Killarney disco in 2004.

Man jailed for 10 years for cannabis

A man who agreed to hold €38,000 worth of cannabis because he wanted money for his godchild's Christening has been sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to 10 years.

Robert McCarthy (23), Ferrycarrig Green, Coolock, Dublin, was unemployed at the time and admitted to gardaí that he took the drugs because he was offered €500 to hold them.

He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possessing of the drugs in June 2005.

Security guard stored cocaine

A security guard at the Point who stored more than €7,000 of cocaine and drugs paraphernalia in his work locker has been jailed for two years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Mark Duffy (35), Cashel Road, Crumlin, Dublin, pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs on August 13th, 2005, at the Point for sale or supply.

Trial of Radio Dublin founder

The trial of the founder of illegal pirate station Radio Dublin has been adjourned to later in the week following legal argument.

Eamonn Cooke (70), Heatherview Avenue, Tallaght, and Wheatfields Court, Clondalkin, Dublin, has pleaded not guilty to 42 charges of indecent assault on two complainants on dates from 1976 to May 1978 at an address in Dublin.

The trial continues before Ms Justice Maureen Clarke.
