Gardai name motorcyclist killed in crash

Gardaí are investigating a fatal crash at Littlepace Estate, Clonee, Co Dublin, at 7pm on Saturday in which a 35-year-old motorcyclist died . There was no other vehicle involved.

Gardaí in Blanchardstown named the man as John Brennan, of Lohunda Road, Clonsilla, Dublin.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Dundalk named the man killed in a fatal traffic crash on May 7th as Patrick Harte (75), of Meadowview, Ballindrimley, Co Roscommon.

Minister to meet US lobby group

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern will meet the president of the American group, Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform, in Dundalk this morning.

Grant Lally said it was a critical time in the group's campaign for legislation in the US that would clear the way for the legalisation of up to 50,000 undocumented Irish immigrants. The US Senate opens its debate on immigration reform today.

Three charged over Belfast crash

A man and two teenagers were charged yesterday over a crash involving a stolen car that left five PSNI officers injured in Belfast.

The car had collided with three police vehicles in north Belfast early on Saturday morning after it was seen speeding down the wrong way of a motorway.

After police made five arrests, they confirmed that a 17-year-old youth had been charged with aggravated vehicle taking.

He was accused of assault on police, dangerous driving and driving while unfit.

An 18-year-old is due in court today charged with allowing himself to be driven in a stolen car while a 23-year-old man faces the same offence.

Meanwhile, a taxi driver and two PSNI officers were among five people injured when youths went on a rampage on the Shore Road, Belfast yesterday. One man, aged 29, was arrested for riotous behaviour, said police. - (PA)

Arson attack on Down school

Students' exam work was destroyed in an arson attack on a Co Down school.

Police said two classrooms and a store at the De La Salle High School, Downpatrick, were extensively damaged. A sum of money was also taken from the premises. Other classrooms were smoke-damaged in the attack at the weekend.
