Swedish furniture retailer Ikea has lodged a planning application for its new Dublin store with Fingal County Council.

Swedish furniture retailer Ikea has lodged a planning application for its new Dublin store with Fingal County Council.

The company is seeking permission for to build a store of over 30,000 square metres at the Ballymun Regeneration Zone.

Theresa Daly, Ikea's project manager in Ireland, expressed her confidence that the application would meet "all of the tests of national policy as well as national and local planning guidelines" and said the store "would add to the vitality and viability of Ballymun".

The company has rejected accusations that the new Dublin store will lead to chaos on the M50.

Green Party transport spokesman Eamon Ryan last month called on Ikea not to proceed with the project.
