A man discovered the foot when he was collecting seaweed on the beach at Marino Point in Cobh at about 5.30 p.m. The foot - reported to have been in a black size-eight shoe - was removed to Cork City Morgue.

Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster will examine the foot later today.

Naval Service divers are believed to have searched the area last night but found nothing else.
